this could work for both john and jade. for jade, sew both sides from the right to the x (and the approximate place where the x would be on the bottom), then fold the parts you haven't sewn in half length-wise and sew. if you need help feel free to ask.

you should also probably hem it instead of keeping the edge raw, because it'll fit and look better that way.
